Abington Community Speedwatch is back in action

Thursday, 24 September 2015

Little Abington Parish Council has invested in Community Speedwatch equipment to check speeds around the village, in the 30 MPH and 40 MPH areas. (It can also be used to monitor 20 MPH areas in due course.) It comprises a portable sign advising drivers of their speed and is operated by volunteers who have been trained by the police. They observe vehicle speeds and advise police of any speeding. The police may follow up in a variety of ways.

We ran our first session this morning, getting to know the equipment. Most - but not all - drivers were alert enough to spot the hi-vis jackets and slow down, which was good. We'll be out again before long. We will concentrate on Little Abington in the first instance but may broaden our horizons in future.

If you would like to help in making our local roads safer, you will need to be trained. Please contact our coordinator Steve Garrett: email abingtonspeedwatch1@yahoo.co.uk for more details.
